How much does Probate cost?

Our present charge for obtaining a Grant of Probate in the Isle of Man starts at £450 plus VAT and disbursements where the deceased died domiciled in the British Isles & Ireland or £650 plus VAT and disbursements in any other country provided that the application is straightforward and progresses without any delay or complication. If the application becomes more involved or complicated for any reason, our fees will be charged on a time spent basis.

The main disbursement is the fee payable to the Government (as described below) which is based upon the gross value of the estate in the Isle of Man:

Value of EstateFee Payable
Under £2,800Nil
Between £2,801 and £21,000£42.00
Between £21,001 and £70,000£135.0
Between £70,001 and £140,000£265.00
Between £140,001 and £200,000£445.0
Exceeds £200,000£576.00

There is also a charge of £1.35 for each copy of the probate required and a nominal charge will also be made if a copy of the Grant is required, which is attached to a copy of the will.

It would be usual for these costs and any Advocates costs to be paid out of the Estate.
